ECLASS brings its Digital Product Passport expertise to global standardization

ECLASS is currently in the application process for a liaison with ISO/IEC JTC 5 “Digital Product Passport.” In this interview, Anida Nedzibovic, Consultant Standardization Engineering at the ECLASS Head Office in Cologne, explains the opportunities this creates for ECLASS and its members.

Anida, what is the planned liaison with ISO/IEC JTC 5 about?

Anida: ECLASS is currently in the application process for a liaison with ISO/IEC JTC 5 “Digital Product Passport.” The liaison is intended to be established at the level of the entire technical committee—that is, at the TC level—and not only within a single Working Group.

What role does ECLASS already play in European standardization?

Anida: I am currently active in CEN-CLC Working Groups 1 through 4 on the Digital Product Passport. My colleague Carolin Prinz, who is currently on maternity leave, was also closely involved in this work. Through this work, ECLASS is already bringing experience from the European discussions into standardization.

What does ECLASS hope to achieve through the liaison?

Anida: With the planned liaison, we want to bring the European work to the global level. This will allow us to follow international developments at an early stage and contribute our experience to global standardization work.

What benefits will this bring to ECLASS and its members?

Anida: The liaison will give ECLASS greater international visibility and strengthen its network. At the same time, it opens up the opportunity to actively help shape global requirements for the Digital Product Passport. Our members will benefit as well: they will gain early insights into international developments and be able to contribute their perspectives to this process.
