Fabian Schwanitz manages the release process for ECLASS. In an interview, we ask our questions about the upcoming Release 14.0, which is scheduled to be launched in December 2023, and the major changes in the release process.

The BMEcat format is established worldwide for the exchange of electronic catalogs. We have now published a revised technical specification for the full implementation of ECLASS in BMEcat.

In order to further strengthen the ECLASS Standard internationally and to represent the interests of the association and its members in a bundled manner, ECLASS e.V. increasingly engages in global and national standardization organizations. The joint standardization projects benefit from the exchange of expert knowledge and strengthen the level of awareness of ECLASS.

We are introducing a new XML Schema! The new Schema is to be used starting with BETA Release 14.0, which will be made available to the ECLASS developers community for testing mid-August, 2023.

In the Beta Phase of Release 14.0 we are providing full translations of the ECLASS content, besides English, for the first time in several additional languages. 

Another step towards ECLASS Release 14.0 has been successfully completed. By the deadline of April 20, 2023, already 22,000 new change requests had been submitted by users of the ECLASS Standard.

For modeling the semantics and structure of Submodel Templates for the AAS, ECLASS makes use of existing structural elements. Thus, Submodel Templates are modeled in ECLASS as aspects. These are in turn assigned to a new so-called asset application class to be ordered in the ECLASS classification system.
