ECLASS at digitalBAU 2026: Driving innovation in the digital construction industry

digitalBAU 2026 in Cologne was a huge success for ECLASS. The focus on expanding strategic partnerships and integrating ECLASS further with BIM (Building Information Modeling) in order to continue driving the end-to-end integration of digital processes in the construction industry.

Focus: Synergies with buildingSMART Germany

A highlight of the trade show was the in-depth discussion with buildingSMART Germany. Building on the success of previous projects - such as the integration of the buildingSMART door list into ECLASS Release 15.0 - the future roadmap was discussed. The goal remains to create more practical use cases for linking the two standards.

Connectivity via bSSD and software partners

Discussions with leading software companies focues on integrating the ECLASS initiave into the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bsDD). This technical bridge will allow standardized product and classification data to be incorporated even more seamlessly into digital planning and construction processes in the future. Further in-depth discussions are planned to define the next steps.

Standardization in Building Services Engineering (VDI 3805)

The dialogue with partners in the VDMA network was groundbreaking too. Together, we are working to integrate the VDI 3805 guideline into the ECLASS Standard. This harmonization will be a key driver in the digitalization of building services engineering (BSE) across the entire value chain.

„digitalBAU has once again demonstrated that ECLASS is the key to linking product data, BIM applications and industry-specific standards.“

Conclusion: The trade show provided valueable insights into how to deepen collaboration with key organisations. ECLASS is therefore strengthening its position as the data standard for the future construction industry.
