ECLASS reduces redundancies

The fact that companies using ECLASS avoid redundancies in product master data, in addition to other advantages of the standard, has long been known. But what about redundant structural elements within the Standard? For example, we find " Salad servers" both in segment 29 " Home economics" in class 29090401 and in segment 50 " Interior furnishing" in class 50100206.

In an Ad-hoc Group, ECLASS e.V. is addressing these redundancies within the ECLASS structure and is developing a process that includes a review of existing content directly when new content is created. This will help avoid duplication through Change Request submissions and increase awareness of existing content.

In addition to the review process for new content, however, the Ad-hoc Group also reviews existing ECLASS content for existing redundancies. Currently, the Ad-hoc Group identifies redundancies at the class level. When eliminating redundancies, the Ad-hoc Group involves the Expert Groups and their expertise. The goal is to define only one class at a time in the ECLASS hierarchy for a product.
