New Segment for Waste and Residues

For companies, the precise classification of waste and processing residues has long since evolved from an administrative task into a critical competitive factor. The introduction of the new segment 'Waste and processing residues' and the tremendous response in the form of new ECLASS content reflect this development.

Today, comprehensive digital descriptions are fundamental to effective waste management systems and the implementation of a sustainable circular economy. With this in mind, ECLASS has created a new segment focusing on waste and secondary raw materials. The classes in this segment are based on the European Waste Catalogue, as set out in Article 7 of Directive 2008/98/EC.

In addition, ECLASS is responding to the rapidly increasing number of regulatory requirements. Standardized data is essential for documenting disposal routes and material flows in a legally compliant and transparent manner in light of new reporting obligations such as the Digital Product Passport (DPP) or CSRD reporting. Lastly, standardization provides tangible economic benefits by enabling automated material flow management, which reduces process costs in logistics and waste management in the long term.

Anyone wanting to know which properties a group of experts is using, or how many value lists are currently in use, usually has to painstakingly comb through release files or submit manual export requests.
