The large number of proposed changes in the initial phase alone highlights the tremendous momentum of the standard. Users can look forward to significant structural improvements and extensive content enhancements.
An overview of the technical highlights
Much of the new content was contributed by our partners' expertise. This goes beyond minor adjustments: in addition to an entirely new segments, a large number of new classes were submitted, which has significantly expanded the scope of ECLASS.
- Circular Economy & Waste Management: More than 10,000 CRs are assigned to the new segment 52, “Waste, processing residue” (submitted by Class.Ing). This includes, among other things, 25 new classes at Level 2. The new content also takes into account, among other things, the EU Directive “European Waste Catalogue pursuant to Article 7 of Directive 2008/98/EC.”
- Strong growth in the automotive sector: For segment 44, 'Automotive Engineering, Vehicle Components', over 5,000 CRs were submitted, including a large number of new classes as well as revisions to existing content (submitted by Class.Ing). Segment 28, 'Vehicle (Complete Vehicle)', is also being restructured comprehensively, with around 500 new classes being added.
- Security: Segment 49 ‘Public Safety and Military Technology’ will be significantly expanded to include approximately 130 new classes.
- Quality Assurance: The 'Duplicates' ad hoc group has submitted over 700 CRs in order to resolve redundant values.
- Segments 27-38, 'Robotics Assembly', is being restructured to include over 40 new classes and various edits.
- Additionally, a number of new properties are being introduced in segments 27, 36 and 37.
