Definition | Masonry is a component or structure made of natural or artificial stone as a solid construction. Due to its specific techniques and materials, masonry construction is characterized by other construction techniques, such as timber construction, reinforced concrete construction or steel construction. The masonry consists of individual pressure-resistant elements (natural stones or artificial stones such as, for example, mud bricks, masonry bricks or concrete bricks), which are connected with or without mortar in a masonry compounding. A masonry system is understood to mean certain joining techniques in order to form masonry which is made of individual stones. A shaped stone is a brick that has been made in a special shape to meet a special function, for example as a first stone or as a masonry arch |
