Classification: 34550800 [ADS103008]

Preferred name 34-55-08 Magnetic resonance imaging
Definition computer-aided imaging method for obtaining two-dimensional cross-sectional images of the body or organs for diagnostic purposes by means of an energetically operated radiation source and a radiation-sensitive detector which, lying opposite the radiation source in the radiation path, is moved together with the radiation source in a circular manner around an object under examination. the intensities detected by the detector during the circular movement over time, together with the associated circular path data, are converted by a computer into an x-y intensity matrix of numerical values, which can be displayed on an output unit, e.g. a monitor. the monitor display shows the intensity values of this matrix as luminous points whose brightness corresponds to the intensity values. viewed optically, the result is a sectional image in plan view
