COMDO: A Common Semantics Framework for Unambiguous Product Descriptions

Unambiguous, machine-readable product information is essential for interoperability and automated processes. A new technical article from the DKE explains how the COMDO project involves ISO, IEC, and ECLASS working together on a common semantic foundation.

Different terms and definitions complicate the automated exchange of technical product data and can lead to misinterpretations. The COMDO project brings together the existing semantic resources of ISO, IEC, and ECLASS to address this issue.

At the heart of the project is a shared, modern data dictionary that combines standardized definitions with ECLASS's technical infrastructure and extensive digital Properties. The dictionary is intended to enable product attributes to be described unambiguously, used centrally, and exchanged in a machine-readable format between different systems.

The technical article recommends that companies and industry organizations utilize the existing ECLASS infrastructure and contribute their own semantic content to further expand unambiguous, interoperable product descriptions.
