ECLASS properties for product carbon footprint

Information on the CO₂ balance of individual products is becoming increasingly important for companies. With Release 13.0, the ECLASS association wants to include corresponding properties in the ECLASS Standard and thus becomes the "first mover" in the field of standardized information on Product Carbon Footprints (PCF).

On Friday, February 11, 2022, the first meeting of the ECLASS experts on the Product Carbon Footprint initiative took place.

In a detailed discussion based on the preparatory work by Stefan Willms (morphe) and Dirk Steffens (PBS Consulting) commissioned by the ECLASS committee 'Operating Arm', the participants from various industries were able to agree on an initial scope.

Due to the strong input, the modeling of the PCF-relevant content for the upcoming ECLASS Release 13.0 can be started shortly. This first draft takes into account the current information from standardization and EU initiatives for the PCF area.

The expert group sees in the draft a future-proof basis on which further developments in the field of sustainability can be mapped.
