3.4 Mounting Orientation

The mounting orientation block is used to provide information on the article’s usage capabilities under certain mounting orientations.

The “mounting orientation” property offers a simple way of indicating the correct position. The property, which specifies angles of rotation, offers the ability to precisely indicate the maximum allowable angles. The angle information always refers to the coordinate system, and is NOT dependent on the “mounting orientation” property. Maintaining consistency between the “mounting orientation” property and the angle of rotation properties is the responsibility of those doing the describing.

Level

Type

Structure element name Application, explanation Function for CAx and process

1

C

Number of mounting orientations

Indication of the number of possible mounting orientations

Calls the block that describes mounting orientations; number of calls determined by number given here

1/2

B

Mounting orientation

Mounting orientation block

Block for the description of mounting orientation

3

M

Mounting orientation

Information on the arrangement options for the item. The item’s X-direction is described relative to the possible arrangement on the mounting level.

Depending on the mounting orientation, the article may support a number of possible arrangements.

4

W

Horizontal/lying

The article’s X-direction points in the positive X-direction of the mounting level

4

W

Vertical down

The article’s X-direction points in the positive Y-direction of the mounting level

4

W

Vertical up

The article’s X-direction points in the negative Y-direction of the mounting level

3

M

Rotation on the horizontal axis

Angle by which the item is to be rotated around its X-axis after aligning its coordinate system with that of the mounting level.

If the value=0° for all angles of rotation, the Y-axis of the mounting level stands vertically (perpendicular) in space, while the X- and Z-axes are horizontally aligned. Positive values then rotate the mounting level so that the Z-axis tilts downward from the horizontal toward the vertical direction.

3

M

Rotation on the vertical axis

Angle by which the mounting level is to be rotated around the Y-axis of the coordinate system.

If the value=0° for all angles of rotation, the Y-axis of the mounting level stands perpendicular (vertical) in space, while the X- and Z-axes are horizontally aligned. Positive values then rotate the mounting level so that the X-axis rotates in the direction of the Z-axis.

Note: Rotations in this axis are useful only if a rotation on the horizontal axis is taking place at the same time.

3

M

Rotation on the mounting level

Angle by which the mounting level is to be rotated on the Z-axis of the coordinate system.

If the value=0° for all angles of rotation, the Y-axis of the mounting level stands vertically (perpendicular) in space, while the X- and Z-axes are horizontally aligned. Positive values then rotate the mounting level so that the X-axis tilts downward from the horizontal toward the vertical direction.

3

C

Number of barred areas

Used only if the mounting orientation requires barred areas beyond those already defined at the article level in the part relation section.

For additional information, see point 3.5

3

C

Number of parts relations

Used only if the mounting orientation requires parts beyond those already defined at the article level in the part relation section.

For additional information, see point 3.1
